Burke was parachuted back into United’s first choice eleven at West Bromwich Albion last weekend, and although the visitors missed numerous chances en route to their ninth defeat in 10 Premier League outings this season, Wilder was pleased by the partnership between his two centre-forwards.

Despite admitting United must “become more clinical” in order to climb off the foot of the table, Wilder said: “I thought the combination between Oli and Oli was really good, we had a stretch in there. It’s about picking the right two for the game. Whoever that might be.”

With Lys Mousset, Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick also competing for places in attack, Wilder was also asked about the performances of Rhian Brewster, United’s record transfer signing, ahead of the meeting with Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Brewster has yet to score since completing a £23.5m move from Liverpool earlier this term, but Wilder has been encouraged by his work so far, saying: “Rhian is still a young player. He’s not the finished article. He needs a little bit of time and a little bit of backing.”

"Rhian is a bubbly character and his attitude has been excellent,” Wilder added. “He’s going to have a career, definitely, you can see that. He’s really good around the place and everyone has taken to him.”
