Luke Freeman, the Bristol City winger, says his new club are happy to count themselves among the favourites for promotion this season.
Freeman, who arrived at Ashton Gate from Stevenage six weeks ago, made the claim ahead of tomorrow’s League One opener at Sheffield United.
“The aim for us is promotion, without a shadow of a doubt,” he said. “We have to take things step-by-step, but going up to the Championship is definitely the target over the long run.
“We have had a very good few weeks of pre-season and are all edging closer to the standards we are looking to set when the competitive games get under way.
“Getting back to somewhere near peak physical fitness has been a slow process, but now I can’t wait for the season to start and that is how everybody in the squad feels.”
