Paul Heckingbottom’s pre-Newcastle press conference

PH is asked if Jebbison is in physical position to play 3 PL games in a week...

He’s been worked hard, one thing with the academy boys is that they’ve been exposed to some tough physical training. We’ll take the same care as with any other player but in terms of him being capable to play, no problem. But we’ll assess it game by game.

PH on making no substitutions against Everton

I can’t remember the last time [I didn’t], I do like to make changes generally but everyone was performing their role. I thought it was the strongest performance without the ball for a long time and they need to be pleased with that. It’s probably a reflection on that, everyone doing their job and being committed and not being panicked. It wasn’t us who needed to change, it was Everton.

PH on the confidence his side showed against Everton

We’ve been trying and trying and trying, it’s only one game but we’ve had others where we’ve played well and not got anything from it. We had to get a foothold and then we didn’t stop, we were strong from start to finish. Getting the first goal is vital for us, if you’re chasing the game and having to push you can be vulnerable to the counter. Those are key things and what we’ll look to continue in the next two games.

PH is asked about Gary Neville’s call for changes in how football is run...

This opportunity has to be seized, to get clarity going forward. To take away fears, what can and can’t be done in the future and put people’s minds at rest. I don’t know how far it can go to make it a level playing field with it being a business who people put cash into, but we can seize this chance to put a lot of minds at rest about the intentions of the big six and where they want to take the game. Why should Leicester winning the FA Cup and being in the Champions League be taken away from them? That’s everyone’s dream.

PH on playing in front of fans again

I’m looking forward to it. We’re in the Premier League, you’re stood on the sidelines watching the best players but there’s no fans so it feels like any other game. To start welcoming fans back will be great. It’s a good stadium with fanatical fans so I’m sure they’ll make some fantastic noise and then we finish the season with our fans. So the next two games are something we can all look forward to.

PH on any changes for Newcastle trip

We’ll have a look. We’re not blessed with a big squad and we have seven or eight injuries so changes will be from the bench if we make them. We’ll see how everyone is feeling and moving tomorrow and pick the team from there.

PH on how Blades approached Everton game

Everton have picked different systems and personnel but we knew they’d have world class players, we had to be bothered about our performance and how we could hurt them. It was very much about us and it was pleasing to hear people saying good things about the players. That’s the reward.

PH is asked if Jebbison’s display was one of maturity

That’s because he understands the role, the way we play in the academy is with two centre forwards and he’s done a lot of work with Jack and myself. We didn’t ask him to do anything different than what he’s done all season.

PH on Dan Jebbison after winner at Everton

I’ve not seen him this morning but I’m sure he’s still walking on air and I’m really pleased for him. He deserved his opportunity and hopefully it’s the first of many.
