SHEFFIELD United manager Danny Wilson insisted Nick Blackman has the potential to take League One by storm after watching the striker score his second goal of the season last night.

Blackman, a summer signing from Blackburn Rovers, pounced during the closing stages of a compelling draw at Coventry City following Stephen Elliott’s opener for the hosts.

Wilson said: “Nick is a damn good player, make no mistake about that. He’s got confidence in his own ability and can do more than just finish. He’s also good in all-round play.

“Sometimes you don’t get opportunities at a club and you have to move on. He’s not the finished article but we’re delighted he’s with us.”

Wilson added: “I thought we played some exhilarating football. It was disappointing to only get a point but, in terms of the bigger picture, some of the stuff we played was fantastic.”

Meanwhile, negotiations aimed at finalising the departures of Nick Montgomery and Richard Cresswell from Bramall Lane will continue today, with both seemingly destined to leave before the end of the transfer window later this month.

Scunthorpe have held talks with Cresswell’s representative while Montgomery interests Huddersfield Town and Leeds.

Although Elland Road is the long-serving Blades midfielder’s preferred destination, Burnley and Millwall are also monitoring his situation.
