John Egan believes communication has been the key to Sheffield United’s excellent defensive record in the Premier League so far this term.

Chris Wilder’s side will enter Saturday’s match against Brighton and Hove Albion having kept six clean sheets since August; a figure only bettered by second-placed Leicester City.

Egan, who like his fellow centre-halves Chris Basham and Jack O’Connell helped United win promotion from the Championship last season, said: “As a unit, we work really well together. We’ve come up against some really good strikers this year and if we can defend well, we can keep on winning games.”

United finished the latest round of fixtures in seventh - above the likes of Arsenal, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle - after beating Aston Villa at Bramall Lane. They will travel to Sussex five points above 13th placed Albion, who are expected to include former United target Neal Maupay in their attack at the AMEX Stadium.
