Reports in the Belgian media suggest that the Blades are monitoring Anderlecht defender Elias Cobbaut, who has made a rapid rise this season.

Initially kicking his heels in the stands after Manchester City's Philippe Sandler was brought to the club on loan by Vincent Kompany, Cobbaut benefited from an injury to Sandler and hasn’t looked back.

Anderlecht paid 2.5M euro for the player and according to Le Sior, they wouldn’t be against cashing in on the left-sided central defender.

Italian outfit Atalanta are also said to be interested.

United have on their technical committee Belgian Jan van Winckel, who already used his contacts and knowledge of his home country's football by helping to bring goalkeeper Michael Verrips to Bramall Lane in the summer.
