Sheffield United: Injuries hit Blades hard

SHEFFIELD United manager Danny Wilson last night admitted the loss of Neill Collins and Matt Hill has contributed to his team’s indifferent form over the festive period.

Back to back home defeats mean United return to League One action at Notts County this weekend fourth in the table and trailing leaders Tranmere Rovers by six points.

With Collins and Hill both nursing serious facial injuries, Wilson has been forced to reshuffle a defence which, before those losses to Hartlepool and Yeovil Town, had conceded only once in four outings.

Although the arrival of Danny Higginbotham from Stoke City has eased some of the pressure on United’s rearguard, Wilson said: “Of course it makes a difference. They are two very important players for us.

“That’s not a criticism of the lads who are out there now, because they’re very good players too.”

Wilson added: “But there’s been a lot of disruption back there and we did look a little bit loose (against Yeovil) at times.

“Partnerships don‘t just materialise overnight.”
