According to the Athletic, all Premier League clubs, including Sheffield United, are working towards an agreement which is hoped to be favourable to the PFA, players, and their agents.

The move would see all top tier sides hold off paying their top earners until the game returns to normality - a move which Championship side Leeds United made last week, in order to ensure the club could keep paying their non-playing staff who earn a fraction of the footballers' salaries.

Yesterday, Newcastle Untied, whose first team squad earn an average of around £40k-per-week, placed all non-playing staff on furlough leave, which will require them to applying for the new Government scheme that pay workers 80% of their wages (up to a maximum of £2,500 per month).

Meanwhile, reports yesterday suggested the possibility of the season returning in a behind-closed-doors format in June/July, with all 92 matches being televised - thus fulfilling the Premier League's obligation to honour their TV rights deal with Sky Sports and BT Sport without having to take the mighty financial hit of rendering the current campaign null and void.

A further statement regarding plans to finish the season is expected later in the week, and could be made on Friday follow the upcoming stakeholders meeting.
