Sheffield United: '˜I don't expect early return to Blades', admits John Brayford

Loan defender John Brayford has admitted he doesn't expect to be recalled by Sheffield United in January.

Brayford, a £1.5m signing from Cardiff last January, joined Burton Albion on loan back in August and linked up once more with ex-Blades boss Nigel Clough.

Chris Wilder, the current Blades boss, allowed Brayford and Marc McNulty to leave on loan - McNulty joined League One rivals Bradford - but refused to rule out the possibility of them coming back in January, admitting: “We’ve got an option in our favour in terms of both boys. So decisions will be made.”

But Brayford, who has made 12 appearances for Burton in the Championship this season, said: “When I signed the deal I didn’t know what the clauses were or anything - I just signed what I was meant to sign.

“That’s out of my hands. I’m enjoying my time here and obviously Sheffield United had an opinion on me at that stage, and what they needed to do to progress, so it suited both parties.

“What comes in the future I don’t really know to be honest. I haven’t really delved into that because I’ve not been told anything about it since. I’ve just tried to get on with my business then if somebody says something other than what I’ve been told I’ll go with that.

“That’s what I signed. Until I’m told different, I’m here until the start of May really. Then we’ll take it from there.”

Under Clough, Burton are just a point clear of the Championship drop-zone but Brayford admitted: “I love it, to be honest. It’s brilliant.

“I loved my time at Sheffield United but playing in the Championship is a higher standard, and when you’ve played there for a bit your body adapts. You just take it in your stride.”
