Sheffield United hopeful of post-deadline transfer boost as Chris Wilder makes owner relationship clear
Chris Wilder has revealed Sheffield United are in talks with an unnamed free agent who is 'extremely enthusiastic' about joining the Blades and could be registered in time for Tuesday's trip to Blackburn Rovers.
Sheffield United are in talks with an unnamed free agent, Chris Wilder revealed this afternoon, as the Blades look to add to their squad even after Tuesday night’s transfer deadline. The Blades were rocked on the final day of the window when Callum O’Hare went to Wrexham.
United ran out of time to secure a replacement before 11pm, prompting a pouring of frustration from Blades fans despite that evening’s 3-2 win over Bolton Wanderers at Bramall Lane.
But the hope is that he could be signed before Monday’s 12pm cut off point to feature in Tuesday night’s trip to Blackburn Rovers. Before then the Blades have a game against Norwich City, at Bramall Lane tomorrow, and Wilder said: “It was a difficult window.
“But we brought some good players in. I talked about it, the timing of it is not always great and there’s a little bit of frustration with Callum going because we would have liked the opportunity of bringing somebody in.
“But I said to the board that I didn't want to go blind on it. We've missed out on a couple but I look at our group now and we're potentially one forward light. The other boys have got to step up to the plate.
“If people try and make some issue between me and the board, that's completely wrong. I work for the football club. We're in good nick, we're in good shape. We're possibly one light.
“We're working extremely hard now to try and get in a player who had his contract terminated, who I think would be a good addition to the football club. I'm obviously not going to say the name.
“But we've talked to him, talked to his agent, touched base with the player. He's extremely enthusiastic in wanting to come. We feel the same about the player and it will just give us that number that we are short on at the top of the pitch.
“It's close, to some finer details to be sorted out. But we're close to that unnamed player coming in over the weekend, registering before 12 o'clock on Monday to be available on Tuesday night.”
