Sheffield United: 'The goals will come' - Why Ollie Norwood says Blades are "fortunate" to have David McGoldrick in their team

Oliver Norwood, the Sheffield United midfielder, says the Blades are “fortunate to have a player of David McGoldrick’s class” in their team after backing the striker to end his goal drought in the Premier League.

The 32-year-old McGoldrick made the 11th appearance of his top-flight career at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, as the Blades drew 1-1 with Nuno’s men.

McGoldrick squandered a good chance to extend United’s lead at Molineux, his effort saved by Rui Patrício, before flicking a header inches wide later on.

United’s profligacy – John Fleck and Lys Mousset also missed good chances – was eventually punished when Matt Doherty, McGoldrick’s Republic of Ireland teammate, headed home an equaliser in the second half.

McGoldrick was denied his first Premier League goal at Spurs recently, when he tapped home Enda Stevens’ cross from close range before VAR ruled it out.

But Norwood, who again captained the Blades with Billy Sharp on the bench, insisted that McGoldrick brings so much more to United’s game than just goals.

“The goal will come for him. It's one of those things at the minute,” Norwood said.

“But it's not just the goals, it's what he brings to the team. We're a different team with him in it at the minute.

“We appreciate how good a footballer he is and it will come, no doubt about that. We're fortunate to have a footballer of that class in our team.

“He's definitely underrated. We're a better team with him in it than not. We proved that all last season and again this season.”

Sunday’s draw at Molineux extended United’s unbeaten run to seven games. They have not tasted defeat away from Bramall Lane since the Premier League season began.
