Hull City hope to complete a deal for George Long after the goalkeeper was told he can leave Sheffield United.
Long has not travelled with Chris Wilder's squad to Portugal, after being told he can remain in England to seek a transfer away from Bramall Lane.
Nigel Adkins, Wilder's immediate predecessor, expressed his admiration for Long before parting company with the club in 2016.
Indeed, he handed the 24-year-old a new long term contract at United during his only season in charge.
Long spent last term on loan with AFC Wimbledon and, despite impressing for the League One side, is now surplus to requirements following the arrival of Dean Henderson on loan.
City are also training in the Algarve, where United face Maritimo in a friendly tonight.
