Sheffield United will announce their new manager at a press conference at 5pm in London tonight.
It is expected that Nigel Adkins will be announced as the man to replace Nigel Clough, who was sacked last week after 19 months in the Bramall Lane hotseat.
While the location of the announcement is somewhat surprising, the reasons are that it was logistically more beneficial with the parties having initially met in the capital, while some officials are also due to be heading off to Portugal for the annual Football League conference.
Since Clough’s departure it is believed that four men were in the frame - Adkins, MK Dons boss Karl Robinson, Bradford City’s Phil Parkinson and ex-Brentford manager Mark Warburton.
Adkins was clearly the fans choice - as seen from a poll in the Star online yesterday - with his impressive managerial pedigree in taking Southampton from League One to the Premier League clearly standing him above the other candidates.
