Baldock, who had earlier set up Enda Stevens’ equaliser with a cross from the right wing, then added a goal of his own for good measure after turning Mario Vrančić inside out and firing past Tim Krul into the far corner.

Baldock responded by sprinting to the bench in celebration, and later revealed his thinking after a 2-1 victory which saw United bounce back in perfect style following Thursday’s home defeat to Newcastle United.

Billy Sharp's King Goalscorer, isn't he?” Baldock said.

“He said I needed to chip in with a few more goals and he said they were coming. Before a game he always tips me for a goal… but he didn't on Sunday!

“It was brilliant to get a goal. It means so much to everyone whether you're in the team, on the bench or not playing. There's such a togetherness in the squad and I think you can see that when we play.”

Asked if Baldock told Sharp he was coming for his goalscoring record, the wing-back laughed: “I'm only about 348 goals off! I'll take a few more but I'm not setting my sights that high.

“It's any kid's dream to play in the Premier League and a lot of people say that, but it genuinely is. I've played in the Conference so to play in the Premier League is the pinnacle. I'm enjoying every second of it and long may it continue.”
