Maupay, who moved to the AMEX Stadium during the close season despite being chased by Chris Wilder’s side, opened the scoring at Selhurst Park last night before Wilfried Zaha levelled for the hosts.

Speaking after scoring his seventh goal of the season, the former Brentford centre-forward insisted only a moment of individual brilliance from Zaha had denied Albion the three points they deserved.

“We should have won the game,” he said. “But they have got quality players like Zaha.

“We didn’t ever make a mistake. But it was one versus one with him (Zaha) and a very good finish from him.

“I think they (Palace) are a bit lucky.”
