Slavisa Jokanović’s side will bring the curtain down on their regular season at Bramall Lane, hosting his former club Fulham – who, like United, are expected to challenge for an instant return to the Premier League after relegation from the Premier League.

United also host AFC Bournemouth, another potential promotion challenger, at home inside their last six games of the season. Indeed, United may have an advantage if they are in the hunt by that stage with four of their final six matches of the regular campaign to be held at Bramall Lane.

The other two are fairly lengthy trips, to Bristol City and Queens Park Rangers – and Unitedites will be hoping to make the journey home in celebratory mood, especially if their side are in with a shout of an instant return to the top flight by that stage.

Jokanović’s first competitive game in charge of his new side will be at Bramall Lane, on August 7 at home to Bramall Lane.

The Blades’ run of being at home on Boxing Day has been broken as this season they will travel to Preston North End on December 26.

United’s first local derby of the season comes on October 23, when they travel to Barnsley, with the return leg on March 19 2022 at Bramall Lane. All fixtures are subject to change if chosen for television coverage.
