Cries of ‘England’s number one’ reverberated around Bramall Lane after the on-loan Manchester United stopper pulled off a fine save to deny City’s Gabriel Jesus from the penalty spot in the 37th minute.

It came after the 22-year-old had produced two stunning saves to thwart Nicolas Otamendi and Raheem Sterling.

Speaking of his first half display, our United reporter James Shield said: “if this lad doesn't go on to become England's number one, I'll buy a bobble hat and eat it.”

United fans have also been quick to praise the ‘keeper on Twitter.

@Henni_Papenfuss Henderson is 10 times the next best English keeper. World Class!

@LateLateKickOff Henderson is playing a blinder for #twitterblades tonight. Why #mufc gave DeGea a new contract is beyond me. But why did VAR not insist the penalty was retaken. He was miles off the line. Then again... who cares?

@andyfree A fantastic first half performance from Hendo!
