Sheffild United fans turned up at Fleetwood Town on Tuesday night for the Carabao Cup tie at Highbury - unfortunately for them the majority of the players didn’t.
The Blades were knocked out in the third round of the competition by the League Two side after a desperate display which saw Rhys Norrington-Davies’ own goal prove to be the difference between the two sides.
United boss Chris Wilder said of the performance: “Players wanted to go off plan, and we have to own it. It's an incredibly disappointing night, regardless of the amount of changes that we made. That's nonsense.
“That team out there has been good enough to beat Blackburn and should have been good enough to win tonight. We haven't. We have to pay the ultimate consequence.”
Fleetwood will now go on to play Arsenal at home in the next round of the League Cup, the furthest they have ever gone in the competition.
