Steve Bettis, United’s chief executive, made the admission during a visit to the project today, designed to raise awareness of a fundraising venture set to take place at Bramall Lane next month.
Bettis is among over 100 people who have already registered to sleepout on the stadium’s pitch ahead of United’s visit to Newcastle on March 14.

“We’re in a privileged position and we can’t take it for granted.
“I’ve been lucky and I’m thankful for my life. But unfortunately, not everyone has had the same opportunities and you’ve always got to be mindful of that.
“We’re 100 per cent committed to St Wilfs and helping them in any way they can.”

Although he is unable to take part in the event, Bettis and other members of the United’s hierarchy have signed up, with more signatures still being sought.
“We’ve had a great relationship with St Wilfs over the years and what they do is amazing,” Bettis said. “The world would be a much worse place if it wasn’t for places like this.”
