Sheffield United: Ethan Ebanks-Landell wants to be a Blade for rest of season

The centre-half, on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, was speaking after scoring an added time winner against nine man Bury as Chris Wilder’s side extended their unbeaten League One run to 14 games.

Although fears have been expressed that Ebanks-Landell could be recalled by the Championship club when his situation is reviewed in January, the player himself said: “If it’s up to me then, yes, I’d love to stay until the end of the season. I’m enjoying my football and wherever I’m enjoying my football is where I want to be. I’m contracted to Wolves and so it’s down to them. But, personally, I’d like to see it through here.”

Ebanks-Landell is scheduled to remain at Bramall Lane until the end of the campaign after leaving Molineux in August. But, after appointing Paul Lambert as their new manager, Wolves are assessing the options at their disposal following Walter Zenga’s departure last month.

“I’ve spoken to the physio there,” Ebanks-Landell added. “But, at the moment, that’s really about it. I’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”

United, who stay second in the table thanks to Ebanks-Landell’s late strike, were also forced to show patience against Bury who saw Jacob Mellis and Greg Leigh dismissed either side of the interval.

Wilder, confirming Mark Duffy and Kieron Freeman should be fit for Saturday’s match at Charlton Athletic, watched Harry Chapman, Matt Done and Leon Clarke all go close before Ebanks-Landell broke the deadlock in the 94th minute.

“The lads showed a great deal of self-belief out there,” Wilder said. “We always thought a chance would come and it did.”
