Ben Heneghan remains on the books at Bramall Lane but has featured just once for the Blades since moving from Motherwell two years ago, that being in an FA Cup win over Preston in January 2018.

Since then he has had two loan spells at Blackpool, where his current deal runs out this month.

Tangarines boss Simon Grayson is keen to keep the 26-year-old at Bloomfield Road but there is reported interest in Heneghan from Championship sides Blackburn, Wigan and Luton who are keen on taking the player on a permanent deal with his contract at United running out this summer.

“With Ben we’re very much in the hands of Sheffield United and potential other suitors because he’s got a recall option in the middle of January,” Grayson told The Gazette.

“We want to keep him and we’ve made everything clear in that respect.”

He added: “I think Ben has been good for us. He enjoys being here and he has an option to stay here.

“We’ve spoken to Sheffield United and it’s now up to him and his representatives to decide where they’re going with this.

“We’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t stay. Do I think he’ll stay? Who knows?”

Heneghan has made 20 appearances for Blackpool this season, scoring 3 goals. Grayson sign Sheffield Wednesday defender Jordan Thorniley earlier this week as a potential replacement, should it be needed.
