Sheffield United transfer rumours: Blades dealt significant blow in Jesse Lingard pursuit as Arsenal eye £15m-rated Nathan Collins

Just days before the January transfer window slams shut, Sheffield United have been dealt a significant blow.

Blades boss Chris Wilder had hoped to recruit two loan signings at the beginning of the month but as time ticks on, the less likely it has become.

Jesse Lingard was identified as one of Wilder’s main targets after talks were held with his representatives but after weeks of waiting, the Manchester United man is off elsewhere.

As reported by Sky Sports, the 28-year-old has agreed to join West Ham United on loan for the remainder of the season following Ole Gunnar Solskjear’s decision to finally sanction his exit.

Indeed, Lingard won’t arrive on the cheap, with the total cost thought to be more than £3million, taking into account the loan fee and the player’s wages.

Lingard is expected to have his medical in Manchester before travelling to London to complete the move.

If registered by 12pm today, he’ll be available to make his debut against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

It is understood Lingard rejected further approaches from Newcastle and West Brom.

It now seems very unlikely the Blades will not be unveiling any new faces before the deadline at 11pm on Monday.

Here’s a round-up of some of the other transfer rumours involving Sheffield United, and their top-flight rivals this morning:
