Sheffield United dealt fresh injury blow as Chris Wilder sends Patrick Bamford update pre-Wrexham
Ryan One faces another spell on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence of his hamstring injury, but Sheffield United are hopeful Patrick Bamford will be available against Wrexham and will welcome back Mark McGuinness.
Sheffield United have been hit with another disappointing injury blow after discovering the extent of Ryan One’s hamstring injury. The Scotland youth international missed Saturday’s draw with Derby County after suffering a recurrance of the issue.
United were bracing themselves for bad news with the issue being in the same place as the one that kept him out since the opening day of the season, and the scan subsequently confirmed their worst fears.
“We’ve had some disappointing news regarding Ryan,” said boss Chris Wilder ahead of tomorrow’s Championship clash with Wrexham. “It was in the same spot that he got the initial injury, so a recurrence of that.
“So, he's going to be out for a number of weeks. It’s disappointing for Ryan and disappointing for us. He's been a really robust player and not had any injuries.
“I think all our supporters understand the importance of him as much as myself and the coaching staff and his impact that he has on the team. It’s a disappointing one because we were ready for Ryan to make an impact, whether off the bench or starting.”
One impressed on loan at Lincoln City last season as they won the League One title and returned to Bramall Lane in the summer looking to kick on. But injury has frustrated both him and the Blades.
“It’s disappointing, but it's part and parcel,” Wilder added. “He'll have to get over it and come back stronger.”
There was better news in the shape of Patrick Bamford, who came off with a shoulder injury he sustained in the process of scoring the equaliser against Derby County on Saturday.
“He took a big bang,” Bamford said. “I said after the game for a centre forward, just after he scored, to come off in that period of the game, shows it was a big bang. We've assessed him this week and we're hopeful that he'll be available for Friday.”
Mark McGuinness will also be available again after missing the Derby game through concussion. “He's okay, that was protocol for Bristol City.
“It’s just the modern way. Mark was okay, he would have been okay to play Sunday morning. But we all know now the importance of the protocol and the concussion.
“And the longer term. So Mark trained. He's obviously not headed any balls in the early part of that week, but he's trained well and he'll be involved on Friday as well.”
