Sheffield United: David McGoldrick sends a message to Blades fans after Wilder reveals private chat with striker

Sheffield United's David McGoldrick has sent a message to the club's fans after his manager, Chris Wilder, revealed the striker was disappointed not to score during Sunday's draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

McGoldrick's wait for his first Premier League goal went on at Molineux - although he thought he had broken his duck at Spurs recently, only for VAR to rule it out.

Ollie Norwood, the striker's Bramall Lane teammate, today backed McGoldrick to come good eventually - while also adding that he brings much more than just goals to United's overall play.

And McGoldrick, posting on Instagram, was full of praise for his strike partner Lys Mousset - who has scored five goals in five league starts this season - whilst also insisting that his goalscoring form will still turn.

"Moose, look over there - I smell goals for you," McGoldrick posted alongside a picture of him and Mousset.

The striker added the hashtag 'my goals will come' to the post.

Although McGoldrick will enter Thursday’s game against Newcastle searching for his first United goal since April, Wilder says McGoldrick remains one of the most valued members of his first team squad.

“I had five minutes with David in the dressing room, away from everyone else, and told him how key he is for us,” Wilder said, after watching United stretch their unbeaten run to seven matches.

“He wants to get one, of course he does, but we play better with David in the team and the partnership between him and Lys is very important for us at this moment in time.”
