DANNY Wilson, the Sheffield United manager, paid tribute to his team’s character and commitment after watching them climb to second in the League One table.
Nick Blackman’s eighth goal of the season propelled United to a 1-0 victory over Portsmouth last night and ensured the competition’s only unbeaten record remained intact.
Wilson, who revealed striker Dave Kitson missed the game against his former club with a hamstring complaint, said: “That is a very good result against a good team who are going to be challenging come the end of the season.
“They played some really good stuff but we did too. We created some excellent opportunities, especially at the start. There’s a long way to go yet but our position in the table shows we are consistent.”
Wilson, whose team return to action at Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup on Saturday, predicted Kitson could be missing for “around three weeks.”
“I’s only a grade one injury but that could still keep him out for the next few weeks. It’s a shame, especially for the lad himself, because I know he would have loved to have been involved against Portsmouth.”
Academy prospect Diego De Girolamo has signed a professional contract which runs until 2015.
