Sheffield United could be made to play their remaining Premier League fixtures in China – under striking proposals reportedly put forward by a top flight rival.

All Premier League teams will meet today to thrash out their plans for the remainder of the 2019/20 season, with a number of potential solutions set to be discussed.

And according to The Athletic, one option that could be discussed is the possibility of playing fixtures overseas – with one unnamed club reportedly keen on taking games to China, who are moving towards making a recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The idea also hinged on the fact that by taking games out of the country, there would be no extra strain placed on the United Kingdom’s emergency services.

However, it is understood that the majority of top flight sides would be against such a proposal, with a Premier League chief executive telling the Athletic that the idea would be ‘firmly rejected.’
