Henderson’s loan deal wouldn’t take him through to the end of the Blades’ campaign, due to the enforced shutdown as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and talks had been ongoing with Manchester United to strike a deal to ensure the keeper sees out the season.

Speaking to the media ahead of United kicking off the restart of the Premier League on Wednesday night against Aston Villa, Wilder says the details should be sorted out very soon.

“There’s been dialogue and always is, not every conversation is leaked to the media although a lot are,” Wilder said. “I spoke to Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer) yesterday morning, I know he was up and about at the training ground with his team and I thanked him for his cooperation.

United LIVE: Team news and Chris Wilder's press conference ahead of Aston Villa...

“We're in the process in next couple of days of finalising Dean staying with us for the rest of the season. I have got to say Ole was brilliant as he always is and was very pro Dean staying and delighted with what Dean's done for us and what we've done for him as well. It can't be understated the opportunity we've given him to play Premier League football and we've been delighted with him.”

With regards to next season, with Henderson still likely to be behind David De Gea in the pecking order for the number one jersey at Old Trafford and his unwillingness to sit on the bench as he attempts to force his way into a regular place in the England starting XI, Wilder admitted there have already been discussions regarding bringing the 23 year-old back to Bramall Lane.

Wilder added: “We had initial early conversations, of course we would. We would be open to Dean coming back but got huge respect for Man United and he's Man United player, so they'll make that decision with what is best for themselves in conjunction with Dean. If there's an opportunity we'd love to take that up.”
