United continued their 100 per cent pre-season record, after beating Stocksbridge and Maritimo, as goals from John Fleck, Leon Clarke and Billy Sharp sealed victory at Valley Parade.

And Wilder admitted: "I've said before to the players that pre-season is really important, not just in terms of the work we put into the players but their attitude, too.

"And I've got to say that in my time here, apart from a little bit of a disappointing night at Halifax [in July 2016] we've been right at it right the way through the last three pre-seasons. And we were at it again in the first half at Bradford.

"These games matter to me in terms of wanting to win. We had that over in Portugal [against Maritimo] when we scored late on to win a tight game... I want them to have those feelings of being successful and winning games.

"Obviously league points are very precious and hard to come by, and I want us to get into a mentality. And we've got that.

"We were outstanding in the first half but were a bit disappointed for 10 or 15 minutes in the second half. If I was a player in their changing room at half time, I'd have expected a bit of a rocket because they barely laid a glove on us in the first half.

"We had some great openings, created some great chances and scored a couple of fabulous goals."
