Cardiff City manager Russell Slade has revealed that Sheffield United have matched the Championship club’s valuation of John Brayford.

Brayford, who made 20 appearances for Nigel Clough’s side on loan last term, has now been granted permission to hold talks about a permanent transfer to Bramall Lane.

Although the exact amount United have offered to pay for the defender’s services remains undisclosed, it is believed to be above the £1m mark.

“Sheffield United are very keen but it has got to the stage where the club have to decide whether talks can take place,” Slade said this morning. “He has been given the go ahead to talk United.

Chris Holt on why Everybody loves John Brayford

“He would not accept talks if he did not want to go. I can’t speak for John, but I would not talk to a club if I did not want to go to.

“I’ve been honest and told him about approaches. Things get out so I try to be honest. The motivation has come from the player. It’s reached an acceptable level financially.”
