Sheffield United boss reveals his wish for the future

Chris Wilder has revealed the position he wants Sheffield United to be in when his remarkable reign at the club finally comes to an end.

United were languishing in League One when Wilder first took charge four years ago, before winning promotion during their first season under the former defender’s stewardship.

Now ranked sixth in the Premier League following an almost unparalleled period of success, Wilder recently signed a new long term contract with the team he represented as a player and has followed since childhood.

“Legacy is a big thing and, when we all depart, hopefully this club has established itself in the Premier League, has got a foothold in this division and is here to stay,” he said.

Despite entering Saturday’s game against Brighton and Hove Albion only one point short of the 40 point target he set his squad at the beginning of the campaign, Wilder warned ahead of last week’s warm weather training camp in Dubai that results this season offer no guarantees moving forward.

But he used the trip to the Middle East to discuss future transfer strategy with members of the board as United look to build upon their progress since appointing the 52-year-old.
