Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder revealed he sent his friend Darren Moore a congratulatory text message after he took the Sheffield Wednesday job earlier this week, joking: ‘He’s putting our friendship at risk!’

Moore was announced as the new Owls boss after leaving his role at Doncaster Rovers, who he had guided into the League One play-offs.

Wilder and Moore played together in defence for Bradford City, and have remained close ever since.

And asked this morning for his advice to Moore on taking the Hillsborough job, Wilder laughed: “Big Mooro, you’re putting our friendship at risk!

“And my mate Wayne Jacobs, who I knew since we played for Sheffield Boys, who’s his pal and might go in there with him… You’re putting our relationship at risk!

“That was the hardest text I’ve ever sent to anyone last night. I said: ‘What are you doing to me, mate?’”

Sheffield-born Jacobs was previously Moore’s assistant manager at West Bromwich Albion.
