SHEFFIELD United have unveiled Dave Green as chairman of their football club board.

Green, who previously served as vice-chair, replaces Chris Steer while vice-president Ian Cameron also becomes a director.

Jacob Esan, the Nigerian businessman charged with identifying fresh funding for United’s parent company, joins the plc board.

Kevin McCabe, United’s major shareholder and owner, said: “Because of a number of other commitments, Chris is retiring as chairman and hands over the reins to David.

“On a personal note, I am extremely grateful to Chris for the dedication he has given to this club in his role as chairman over the last few years. Rest assured, he will still be flying the flag for the Blades as a director.”

McCabe added: “We have an off-the-field team that will provide a strong backbone to helping achieve our objective of getting back to the Championship and ultimately the Premier League.”

Further changes see executives Steve Coakley and Craig Burns also join the board while Dave McCarthy, who takes responsibility for operations, and Mike Blundell remain as directors.
