Sheffield United’s long-running pursuit of Blackpool striker Steven Davies looks like coming to a successful end.
Davies was left out of the Pool team which lost 1-0 to Birmingham last night and boss Lee Clark, though not naming United, admitted the frontman had requested the opportunity to have talks with another club.
“I spoke to Steven on Tuesday and he asked if he could speak to another club,” he told the Blackpool Gazette.
“He wants to go and speak to them, although we haven’t struck a deal yet with that club.”
Clark added: “When I first got here, Steven was out of the team and had been injured.
“We got him going and he scored some goals, but during the last couple of weeks he didn’t look like he was enjoying his football.
“It’s not just about being a manager – it’s about treating them as people too.
“I don’t want any of my players to be unhappy and Steven felt he would like to pursue something different, but at the moment there’s no deal agreed.”
Clough has been trying to sign Davies since the beginning of the season and tried again during the January transfer window.
