SHEFFIELD United are still attempting to organise a friendly at Bramall Lane later this summer.

Last season’s League One play-off finalists have already confirmed dates against Ilkeston Town, Morecambe and neighbours Rotherham.

But Danny Wilson’s squad, who are also scheduled to play two matches during next month’s week-long training camp in Malta, hope to enjoy at least one run-out on home soil before August’s Capital One Cup tie against Burton Albion.

Despite admitting several high earners are likely to depart following May’s defeat at Wembley by Huddersfield Town, Wilson has already begun the process of identifying potential targets as the South Yorkshire club prepares to overhaul its squad.

David Wotherspoon of Hibernian, Wycombe Wanderers’ Stuart Beavon and defender Ben Parker are among those known to feature on Wilson’s radar.

Hibernian, who are expected to post a large loss when they publish their latest set of accounts, could stand to lose around £250,000 by voting against allowing a Rangers ‘newco’ admission into the Scottish Premier League according to reports.

Charles Green, the former United chief executive, heads the group of investors which purchased the stricken Glasgow giant’s assets for £5.5 million earlier this month.

Kyle Hutton and John Fleck, who were on the brink of sealing loan moves to Bramall Lane last term, could be free to leave Ibrox because of contractual and employment regulations.

Meanwhile, United season tickets have been placed on general sale.

Supporters intending to travel to Malta have been asked to register their details at to ensure they are kept informed of various events designed to coincide with United’s stay on the island.
