Sheffield United injuries latest as Chris Wilder prepares to make some changes for Blackburn Rovers Carabao Cup tie - team news
Sheffield United team news ahead of their trip to face Blackburn Rovers in the Carabao Cup
Sheffield United attackers Tatith Chong and Ryan One will not be available for Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup clash with Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
One came off injured in the draw with Birmingham City on the opening day of the league season, while Chong missed out on Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Swansea City on Saturday - United’s second blank in succession.
Blades boss Chris Wilder will likely make a number of changes to the side that picked up another point in South Wales at the weekend but he will have one eye on a return to the principality with a trip to Cardiff City coming up on Saturday.
Wilder admitted there could well be a couple of his younger players packing out the bench in Lancashire on Tuesday but the squad that heads to Blackburn should be a strong one.
“Well, we'll approach it, as I've talked to the players today, as just as much as it would be a league game and we've done that, we've been really consistent with that right the way through pre-season,” Wilder said.
“Gone on record and talking about the mentality of the team, which I think is really good and it has to be really good in the competitive league that we're playing in. So, I don't want anybody ever pulling a Sheffield United shirt on and wearing that proud badge of ours, not giving less than 100%. We might get beat now and again, we might miss some opportunities, we might be a little bit off of it at times, which will happen through a season.

“But the given of everything that you've got to be at it individually, as a team, whatever competition it is.”
“We've got some [changes] that will be enforced on us and there's some that I will change around, yeah,” Wilder added. “So, that will be our approach but it's not going to be, I mean I just remember back to Cardiff in the FA Cup, I think that was last season where there was kids on the bench and kids playing as well. Might be some kids in the 20, one or two, but that will be a team that I expect to go on and expect to try and get to the next round of the cup.”
On further injuries and the status of One and Chong, Wilder said: “No, we've got a couple enforced from the weekend, but we're not expecting them back for the weekend, Ryan and Chongy. So, ongoing, hopefully off the back of a good week for them. We don't want to rush players back to take chances. It's important for them and for me to have some continuity and we don't need to take risks at this part of the season.”
Jamie Shackleton made a return to the side on Saturday for a rare cameo appearance so unless there has been any further setbacks, the former Leeds United man will likely add a few more minutes into his legs.
Matt Doherty could also start having been on the bench for the first few games of the season while Tom Cannon, Tyrese Campbell and Romelle Donovan could be in the starting XI after they too took a place on the bench at Swansea.
