Could this Sheffield United legend be a future Blades boss?

Danny Hall speaks about whether Billy Sharp could be a future SUFC manager

Billy Sharp officially retired from professional football this weekend, bringing to an end a goal-laden 22-year-long playing career spanning ten different clubs.

A week before the 40-year-old made the official announcement, N5 - A team in the Baller League UK - posted that the striker would be joining them for the upcoming season.

On The Star’s new ‘Inside Bramall Lane’ podcast, Danny Hall spoke about what could be next for the United hero.

When posed the question as to whether Sharp could be a future Sheffield United manager, Danny said, “He has to sort of do the hard yards now if that's what he wants to do; he's made no secret of that. He wants to be a coach. He wants to be a manager. He wants to be a Sheffield United manager. But what he won't be handed to him.”

“He has to sort of earn it almost,” he added. “These things aren't just given to you as they weren't given to Chris [Wilder]. You look at his story, going back to Halifax and Oxford, Northampton, working his way up through the leagues from Sunday league and that's what Sheffield's now got to do.”

Sharp holds the UEFA A and UEFA B coaching licences, along with the League Manager’s Association’s Diploma in ‘Football Management.’

“I suspect that's what he will do. Whether it is, you know, a role in the academy, you go to Shirecliffe now, and it's like a who's who of former United players there. You know, there's Jake Wright there, a few more others behind the scenes, sort of just starting their journey again almost,” Danny added.

‘Inside Bramall Lane’ is The Star’s brand new podcast hosted by Max Morris, who is joined by Danny Hall, as they review matches, discuss news and look ahead to future matches.

New episodes will go live every Monday on The Star’s Inside Bramall Lane YouTube channel.
