Sheffield United 'behind' in race to sign Manchester United's Jesse Lingard as West Ham and West Brom eye soon-to-be Premier League free agent

Jesse Lingard is the transfer link that won’t go away – and Sheffield United hope it ends in the midfielder joining the club.

The Star revealed earlier in the week that the Blades had put together a detailed set of proposals, outlining how they plan to use the Manchester United man in an attempt to win his in-demand signature.

According to one source, the 28-year-old and his advisors were told that “being the biggest fish in the pond” would raise his profile and help earn him a move to a bigger club in the summer.

Lingard was also reminded that a move to South Yorkshire would effectively guarantee him first-team football as the Blades fight to retain their Premier League.

Indeed, the Daily Mirror have also reported similar in the last 24 hours, saying Wilder has told Lingard he would put him at the centre of his United plans, on and off the pitch.

The Mirror also claims Sheffield United know they are behind West Ham and Nice in the race to sign him on loan.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains undecided over the England international’s future with the Old Trafford club locked in a Premier League title battle.

Here’s a round-up of some of the other transfer rumours involving Sheffield United and their Premier League rivals this morning:
