Speaking ahead of Saturday’s visit to West Bromwich Albion, where United hope to record their first win of the new campaign, Wilder insisting it is the responsibility of “every player” to ensure the likes of David McGoldrick, Rhian Brewster and Oli McBurnie enjoy more opportunities to prise apart opposition defences.

United travel to The Hawthorns having scored only four times in nine top-flight outings since returning to action in September, with McGoldrick claiming two of those efforts.

Although Wilder is convinced results are not a true reflection of the performances United have delivered in recent weeks, he acknowledged: “The service the boys are getting at the top end of the pitch isn’t great at times, because we have a tendency at the moment to turn the ball over a little too cheaply. That comes from a bit of anxiety, I understand that and I sympathise with the lads.

“But it’s up to every player to try and give these lads the support they need.”

With Lys Mousset’s return to fitness increasing United’s attacking options, Wilder added: “We are creating chances but we can always do better and that’s what we’ll be aiming to do. Then, it’s up to the lads to take them. That’s their part of the bargain, and they one they have to fulfil.”
