Sheffield United could enter the race for Andy Butler’s services after the centre-half confirmed he will be leaving Walsall this summer.

Butler, whose contract at the Bescot Stadium is about the expire, has informed his employers that he will not be exercising a clause which would tie him to the club for a further 12 months.

United are expected to bolster their defensive options after recently allowing Matt Hill to depart Bramall Lane.

Butler, aged 30, joined Walsall from Huddersfield Town four years ago.
