The Blades boss had hoped to sign at least two loan players last month – including Jesse Lingard – before the Bramall Lane hierarchy withdrew its offer to make fresh funds available
Wilder, naturally disappointed with the decision, pledged to fight on as United fight to retain their Premier League status.
The 53-year-old said: “That happens. If there’s a decision made and you don’t get a player, you move on.
“All my focus is on giving the players in the group the best opportunity to focus on what’s ahead of them. That’s basically where we are.”
But according to reports, the free agent market has been explored via former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.
As per 90min, Sheffield United and West Brom have made contact with Sturridge’s representatives. The 31-year-old has been without a club since March 2020.
In that time, Sturridge has been keeping fit in anticipation of a possible return to football. It is claimed he still believes he is good enough for the Premier League.
Sturridge’s entourage have reached out to Newcastle United after top scorer Callum Wilson was ruled out for up to eight weeks but overall is open to offers from English clubs.
That is good news for United and the Baggies, IF their interest is in fact genuine.
