Sheffield United and Arsenal take a similar view on the January transfer window

After reportedly telling the Londoners’ board of directors that he is largely happy with the options at his disposal, Mike Arteta, who took charge of the three time Premier League champions last month views temporary signings as the most efficient use of their resources ahead of a more comprehensive overhaul this summer.

Chris Wilder, the Basque’s counterpart at Bramall Lane, has also detailed the challenges of doing too much business midway through a season, when clubs openly hike-up the asking prices for their players.

“The reality is we will not be able to do too much,” Arteta said. “I’m more concerned about getting players back from injury and try(ing) to improve the players I have here.”

“If something extra comes up and we think it is the right opportunity to improve what we have, then let’s do it,” he added.

Although sixth-placed United could have a fully fit squad at their disposal if goalkeepers Simon Moore and Michael Verrips both recover from injuries, Arteta will be missing several key players when the two clubs meet on Saturday.

Centre-forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is suspended following his red card against Crystal Palace.

Defenders Calum Chambers (knee) and Kieran Tierney (shoulder) are ruled out until September and March respectively.

Arsenal, who are 10th, were beaten 1-0 by United in October.
