Sources close to both United and AFC Bournemouth have challenged suggestions that Aston Villa are attempting to hijack a deal which will see Ramsdale rejoin the side he left in 2017, while denying that the 22-year-old is insisting he starts ahead of former Rangers’ shot-stopper Wes Foderingham.
Ramsdale’s representatives are also said to be baffled by the claim their client wants special status, given the fact United are prepared to make him the third most expensive purchase in their history and manager Chris Wilder’s repeated assertion that “no one is guaranteed” a place in his team.

Hide AdUnited brought forward their plan to try and sign Ramsdale when Bournemouth were relegated to the Championship last season, after being impressed by his progress since moving to the Vitality Stadium. Wilder had initially explored the possibility of renewing Dean Henderson’s loan from Manchester United for a second time. Although officials at Old Trafford were also minded to let the former England under-21 international spend a third season in South Yorkshire, the price of the deal and several proposed caveats prompted United to look elsewhere, with Ramsdale quickly emerging as their preferred option following a series of commanding performances last term.
