Goals from Anel Ahmedhodzic and Max Lowe sealed victory for the Blades, despite Lynden Gooch pulling one back for the visitors who had Dan Neil sent off in the first half.

Here’s how the game unfolded, with reaction from both managers.

Blades v Sunderland

of added time for the Blades to see this one out ...

and eats up a few more precious moments for the Blades as they look to see this one out

Good effort from Norwood

draws a flying save from Patterson as it’s touched to him, he lets fly and the Sunderland keeper does well to tip it over

Here comes McBurnie

to replace Ndiaye

Berge hits the post

after skipping past a couple of men and then fashioning the chance to shoot, it’s deflected and bounces off the far post before deflecting to safety

Changes for the Blades

as Khadra and Fleck come on, replacing McAtee and Brewster

and having been so good in the first half, it’s a poor pass from Egan that opens the door for the visitors - it’s seized upon in midfield, Wes comes out but Gooch gets there first to chip home with a nice, composed finish for 2-1

AND it’s Lowe who gets it, beautiful football from United sees Berge step over Norwood’s pass and Anel cross perfectly for Lowe to tap home from close range - a wonderful move puts the Blades two ahead

and the Blades lead at the break - I think that’s a justified lead but the game certainly changed in a matter of moments when Sunderland went down to 10 men and also conceded the first goal. Good work from McAtee to press Neil saw him panic and bring the City man down, before a good combination from Norwood and big Anel saw the Blades go ahead at the break. John Egan for me has been exceptional at the back, snuffing out the danger whenever Sunderland ventured forward, and I’d like to see Berge come into the game a little bit more in the second half because we all know what he can do when he’s at his rampant best. But, so far so good...

Baldock looks to curl one

and it’s deflected behind for a corner, McAtee to take ... and it narrowly evades everyone in the middle
