  • Palace went ahead after just over a minute through Benteke

Paul Heckingbottom’s post-match reaction

“Conceding in the first 90 seconds just set the game up,” he admitted after the game.

“When you’re where we are and have to fight for everything, to concede that early knocked the stuffing out of us.

“Then with how good they are on the counter, it set the game up and it took us a long time to recover and get a foothold in the game.”

Hodgson on today’s matchwinner Ebere Eze

He was very, very good. He’s had a difficult period and it’s not always easy to get on the ball and show his silky skills, but that’s the quality he possesses and we constantly tell him we want to see it. Today, the team benefitted from that because he drove forward with the ball, he wasn’t looking to release it as soon as he got it and he got his reward with the assist and the goal.

If you ask me are you happy with him, I’d say absolutely. He’s been brilliant. But it is his first season from the Championship and you expect people to need a bit of time in this league.

Roy Hodgson’s verdict on Palace 1, Blades 0

Very pleased, to be honest I’ve not worried about [survival] but it was nice to get over that 40-point mark and I’m delighted today.

Another disappointing defeat for the Blades, who are sleepwalking into the Championship as things stand with a hangover that will be hard to clear. They will be glad to see the back of Ebere Eze, who has tormented them in both games this season, and showed them the type of pace, power and skill that is needed to shine at this level. Stay with us for reaction from both camps, player ratings and more.

and it’s Eze who gets it, after running half the length of the field and seeing his shot get a deflection off Fleck to beat Ramsdale - Eze has been brilliant this afternoon but it was made far too easy for him once again with the defending, starting with Lundstram in midfield

saves from Ayew away to his left, it’s a save you expect him to make to be fair but it still had to be made and he did it well, pushing it away from danger as well

sees Bryan replaced by John Lundstram as the Blades change shape in an attempt to get back in this game

as Ayew, fresh from the bench, is played in by Zaha but his shot is blocked away by Stevens

from Townsend as he looks to double Palace’s lead, he cuts onto his left foot and looks to find the far corner past Ramsdale but it’s wide of Ramsdale’s goal as he dives across just in case

Almost a dream moment for Jebbison

as Baldock plays back for Osborn whose cross is met by Jebbison, but he can’t get over it and the chance goes begging - in fairness the cross was a little high to make it a glaring chance but he will have dreamed about that moment in his sleep last night
