The Norweigan became United’s club-record buy this afternoon when he put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half year deal with Wilder’s men.

And the 21-year-old said: “I’ve felt the love from the first moment [United showed their interest]. And today, meeting the lads and shaking hands with everyone, it’s felt like home from the first moment.

“I’ve gained a lot of experience in the Belgian league and the national team but to come and play for such a strong team in the best league in the world is brilliant. There was only one club for me and I’m here now.

“The manager has told me how much he believes in me and my qualities, and what I’ll bring to the table. I’ve grown up early and bring a lot of experience. I’m mature for my age.

“I’m very thankful and looking forward to repaying the trust on the pitch, and working hard every day.”
