Sander Berge backed to be a success in Premier League with Sheffield United - but where is his best position?
Sander Berge, Sheffield United's record signing, has been backed to be a success in the Premier League after his £22m January move from Genk.
The Norwegian international became United's most expensive player when he made the move from the Belgian Pro League, and has lined up on the right of midfield in all three of his Premier League starts for the Blades so far.
Berge earned his move to United with a string of impressive performances for Genk in a central midfield position - which Oliver Norwood, the former Northern Ireland international, has made his own at Bramall Lane.
And despite the relative uncertainty about how to fit both players into the same side, Genk's sporting director has no doubt that Berge will be a success in England's top flight.
“I understand there is a big question how he will develop in the Sheffield team,” Dimitri de Conde told The Athletic. “They have a very good player [Norwood] in the middle already. It is why Sander is on the right of three in midfield.
“But Sander’s strongest position is deeper, as the No 6, in front of the defence. It is the position where we saw the best from Sander. Of course, I am saying this as a sports director, not a manager.
“What I can say is Sander will be a success in the Premier League. There is much, much more to see from him. That is not only me speaking but all those who played with him in Belgium.”
