And, if this video is anything to go by, there may well be another generation of the Sharp family pulling on the red and white stripes in the future.

Sharp shared superb footage of his young son, Leo, recreating James Beattie’s stunning free-kick against city rivals Sheffield Wednesday in 2008, in his back garden.

With dad commentating behind the camera, Leo steps up and beats the wall to put his effort right in the top corner – before strutting off nonchalantly.

The clip went viral on Twitter, with many fans commenting on Leo’s skills – while United urged other fans, stuck at home in lockdown because of Covid-19, to recreate famous goals from the club’s history in their back gardens.

Sharp’s wife Jade later joined in the fun, finding the top corner with a shot of her own which was later posted on TikTok.
