A number of players left at the expiry of their contracts, while a few loanees returned to their parent clubs and others were shipped out. But what happened to the main players that departed Bramall Lane this summer? Let’s take a look...
1. Dean Henderson.
After a successful debut season in the Premier League with United, Henderson returned to Manchester United and signed a bumper, six-year deal. He has played second-fiddle to David De Gea so far this season at Old Trafford, though, featuring only twice in both the Red Devils' EFL Cup games. Photo: Peter Powell/NMC Pool
2. Leon Clarke
One of the heroes of Hillsborough, Clarke left United when his contract expired in the summer and after a spell without a club, signed for League One side Shrewsbury Town. He made his debut off the bench against Plymouth before starting in Shrewsbury's next game, at home to Gillingham. Photo: Simon Bellis
3. Nathan Thomas
The winger made only a handful of appearances in his three years at United and spent most of that time out on loan. Now without a club, he has had offers from England and the Netherlands, as well as top-flight clubs in Poland and Australia. Photo: SCC
4. Ben Heneghan
The giant centre-half joined United from Motherwell but found first-team opportunities limited. He had two loan spells at Blackpool during his time at United but hasn't yet found a club since his Blades contract ran out. Photo: Sportimage
