Republic of Ireland boss unconcerned over Sheffield United star Enda Stevens' injury

Mick McCarthy has no concerns that Enda Stevens' calf injury will keep him out of the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2020 play-off game away to Slovakia.

McCarthy names his squad for his country's crunch tie on Friday, with Stevens expected to be named despite going off with the calf complaint in United's win over Norwich on Saturday.

James McClean is also set to be available for the game, which could yet be played behind closed doors because of coronavirus.

“James has told me he is very close to a return to action with West Brom after his knee injury while Enda was taken off early in the second half of Sheffield United’s 1-0 win over Norwich on Saturday with some tightness in his calf,” McCarthy said.

“They are both confident they will be fit for the play-off and that’s good to hear.”

Stevens will be assessed by United's medical staff ahead of Saturday's trip to Newcastle.
