"Quite incredible" - Chris Wilder's reaction as Sheffield United lose 1-0 at West Bromwich Albion

Manager Chris Wilder admits it is "quite incredible" that Sheffield United did not get on the scoresheet tonight in a painful 1-0 defeat at fellow strugglers West Bromwich Albion.

Defeat at The Hawthorns, to Conor Gallagher's first-half strike, kept United bottom of the Premier League table despite a remarkable 22 shots on the West Brom goal.

Baggies goalkeeper Sam Johnstone was in inspired form, and substitute Lys Mousset missed possibly the best chance of them all in injury time when he put the ball over the bar from about three yards out.

"There are a lot of boys in there who are disappointed about the outcome of the game, because I think we've done enough to get something from it," Wilder said.

"We started off on the front foot and should be up early in the game, it was a poor goal from our point of view. We pinned them in and created chances. Not even half chances, either.

"It was quite incredible that we've not scored one to get something from the game. That hurts, and the game for me was decided in our changing room. We can't say we're unlucky, we had a chance to put them to bed but we didn't."

United have scored only four times in their 10 games so far, and Wilder added: "It's got to be a composure and confidence situation, but it's an unforgiving league. Chances come at a premium but that's the most we've created in all our 38 games last season and 10 this. We're not a team that wins 4 or 5-0. We'd like to, but you have to be clinical in this division and if you don't take your chances, you don't get what you want out of the game."
